Education
NDSFB work closely with all schools and colleges within the catchment. The aim is to deliver exciting and informative sessions in relation to the river and the species found therein. These sessions are delivered through a variety of forms and can be tailored to suit the school curriculum or a particular subject/topic.
NDSFB are happy to carry out visits to schools to deliver presentations and/or activities. Previous topics include Salmon and Trout in the classroom, Pearls in the classroom, Mayfly in the classroom, Invasive species, Eels and general riverine/catchment topics. We try and deliver a holistic approach so that a broader understanding is achieved.
School visits are usually followed by a field trip to a selected river or loch, this enables pupils to ‘get their feet wet’ by taking part in invertebrate surveys, habitat mapping and recording. We also deliver an electrofishing demonstration so pupils can get up close to the fish species.
In addition, we work closely with the local Developing the Young workforce in Inverness. Staff deliver careers advice and attend local careers fairs to inform pupils about the industry.
Education isn’t just about schools however; we also deliver talks and presentations to other organisations and community groups and attend local fairs and events along with regular demonstrations to local angling clubs and the wider general public.
